A Brief History of the Church
After several attempts to organize a Sunday School on the West Side of Youngstown in the early 1900's, a permanent organization was established in 1910 with the aid of workers from the Y.M.C.A. and Trinity Methodist Church. The Sunday School met in the old Perkins School building, and in October of 1912, a group of 17 members organized Mahoning Avenue Methodist Church. Soon after this money was raised for a proper building for worship, and through the help of Trinity Methodist Church, two lots were purchased on the corner of Mahoning and Brockway avenues. On July 6, 1913, a chapel was dedicated with 22 church members and a Sunday School membership of 75.

In 1921 a growing membership required more ground for expansion. Adjoining property was purchased, and following renovations the property's residence was used as a Sunday School and community outreach. That same year, men from the church erected a tabernacle where the Men's Booster Bible Class met on Sunday mornings. Revival services and subscriptions resulted in the construction of a new church building on the current site. The cornerstone for the building was laid on September 7, 1924. The new church was dedicated on June 14, 1925.

In 1930, a Hammond electric organ was installed in the church, and in 1942 the church name was changed to Mahoning Methodist Church. Thanks to the generosity of many, groundbreaking took place for the current sanctuary on January 17, 1960, and was dedicated on October 8, 1961. A generous gift from the Wesmeth Class made possible the renovation of the old, second-floor sanctuary into what is now Fellowship Hall. The MollerPipe Organ was installed in 1982, and continues to used. The current pastor is the 19th senior pastor to serve the church.
